Abstract

This paper is an attempt to find a better route of isobutyl acetate by using the method of orthogonal design to investigate the synthesis of isobutyl acetate catalyzed by Ce2(SO4)3 supported on coal based activated carbon, the factor of esterification reaction yield, such as ratio between alcohol and acid, weight of catalyst, reaction time and the dosage of taking water reagent. The study features the best condition: the molar ratio of 1.4 ∶1,weight of catalyst of 0.6g,reaction time of 2h and water-entrainer of 5 mL.The optimum condition shows the esterification reaction yield of over 95%.The results show that Ce2(SO4)3 supported on coal based activated carbon gives a better catalytic activity for the synthesis of isobutyl acetate.
