Microsurgical treatment for meningioma of trigone in lateral ventricles

Abstract

[Objective] To explore the clinical outcome of microsurgery in the treatment of meningioma at the trigone of lateral ventricles. [Methods] The clinical data of 8 cases with meningioma at the trigone of lateral ventricles, who underwent microsurgery, were summarized. [Results] Total resection was performed in 7 of 8 cases and the total resection rate was 87.5%.Postoperative complications, which included co-direction hemianopia in 4 cases, hemiplegia in 1 and psychic symptom in 3,were all cured by nonsurgical therapy. There was no surgical mortality. Part resection was performed in 1 case with recurrence in postoperative 3 years and reoperation was performed with recovery. [Conclusions] Microsurgical technique is the key to treatment of meningioma. Microsurgery of mengingioma is performed at the trigone of lateral ventricles with high difficulty. Appropriate surgical approach and exposure, elaborate operation and adequate postoperative drainage are very important for total resection of the tumor and improvement of clinical outcomes.
