Abstract
AIM: To observe carboprost vs oxytocin for the pervention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage. METHODS: Four hundred normal parturients were randomized into carboprost group (n=300) and the oxytocin group (n=100). The carboprost methylate suppository was put into vagina in carboprost group. The oxytocin group was given 10 IU oxytocin immediately after the delivery of anterrior shoulder of the fetus. RESULTS: (1)the amount of hemorrhage in 2 h postpartum was 138 mL±s 26 mL and 285 mL±60 mL. The difference between the 2 groups was statistically significent (P0.01). (2) The postpartum hemorrhage rate in carboprost group was 4.0% and that in oxytocin group was 30%. It was statistically significant (P0.01). (3) The adverse reactions were mild in carboprost group. CONCLUSION: Carboprost in prevention and treatment of postpatum hemorrhage is a safe and effective drug.
