Abstract

Objective:To observe the antihypertensive effect and safety of irbesatan and hydrochlorothiazide.Methods:73 patients with mild to moderate hypertension were randomly divided into two groups, one group was treated with irbesartan 150 mg qd and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg qd,the other group with captopril 25 mg tid and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg qd for 4 weeks.Blood pressure, heart rate were measured.Side effects were oberred. Results:The decrease in mean diastolic pressure and systolic pressure and systolic pressure after 4 weeks in both groups did not differ sighificantly(P0 05).Efficacy was 80.6%in irbesartan group and 77.1%in captopril group.Howere, the drug related adverse reactions were significantly lower in irbesartan group than that in captopril group(2.8%vs 17.1%).Conclusion:Irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide were effective, safe, reliable and well-tolerated in the treatment of mild to moderate primary hypertension.
