The evaluation in the diagnosis moyamoya disease by MR angiography

Objective:To evaluate the value of MRA and MRI in the diagnosis of moyamoya disease.Materials and Methods:Fourteen patients examined by MRA and DSA were reviewed(10patients examined by MRA,5patients examined by DSA)using Elscint 2.0T MR scanner and GE Advantx DSA system.Results:On MRA,multiple occluded or stenosed vessels can be well demonstrated.Hazy-like collateral network was showed in moyamoya disease.On MRI it was showed that the signal intensity decreased in occluded or stenosed cranial basal vessels.The characteristic of collateral network showed that tortuous vessels from the suprasella cistern to the basal ganglia.Five patients showed hemorrhage.Conclu sion:As a noninvasive vascular imaging method,MRA and MRI can demonstrate various changes of moyamoya disease satisfactorily.It provides an accurate means for diagnosis of moyamoya disease.
