Pathogenesis of Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a clinical disorder characterized by the accumulation of multi-risk factors.With the formulation of guidelines,some uniformity and standardization has been achieved in the definition of metabolic syndrome.The mechanisms underlying metabolic syndrome are not fully understood.However,insulin resistance,obesity,inflammation,and changes in metabolic factors such as PPAR,pyruvate 11{beta}-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase,uncoupling protein,vascular extracellular matrix and basement membrane all play roles in the pathogenesis of this syndrome.
