The Type of China's Historic & Cultural towns and Villages:an Analysis from the Traditional Function Perspective

About the type of China's historic and cultural towns and villages,the academia has not unanimous view. Based on an analysis from the traditional function perspective,this paper studied the main functional difference of 251 historic and cultural villages and towns presented,considered that these towns and villages could be roughly divided into seven types with agricultural,industry-trade,administrative,martial,transport,religion,recordative,etc.,and pointed out that the classification may offer some reference for conservation and development planning of China's old town and village.
