Discussion on the closed fishing season of shrimp trawl in the East China Sea

The necessity of a closed fishing season of shrimp trawl was raised according to the analysis of survey of shrimp resources in the East China Sea and relative social investigation data over the years. The paper also pointed out that the period of a closed fishing season of shrimp trawl operation should be staggered in management on different area instead of one period based on the analysis of diversified shrimp resource, different ecological characteristics, different distributing area, different propagation period and peak period of young shrimp appearance. So it is appropriate to set up a summer closed season in the north (to the north of 31°00′N) containing eurythermal and euryhaline shrimp and a closed season in April-May in the south-west (to the south of 31°00′N) containing high-temperature and high-salinity shrimp. The management right on the closed fishing season of shrimp trawl was suggested to be transferred to each province for the sake of more rational management and each province will determine an exact closed fishing period according to its own condition.
