Abstract

On the basis of landscape ecology theory, with the support of GIS techniques, using land-use maps of two different periods of Mengda Nature Reserve, the studied area was divided into 6 landscape types, including cultivated land, grassland, forestland, shrub land, water area and unused land. The characteristics of spatial distribution and structure of the reserve were investigated from aspects of patch number, area, patch fractal dimension, shape index, dominance, diversity index, uniformity index, landscape fragmentation. The results show that the landscape spatial pattern of Mengda Nature Reserve has changed significantly from year 1991 to year 2003;the area, landscape proportion, mean patch fractal dimension, the shape index and dominance of cultivated land, grassland, unused land and water decreased;but shrub land and forestland increased;the diversity index, uniformity index, landscape fragmentation of the whole landscape decreased gradually;the landscape spatial pattern showed a varied development tendency of shrub land and forestland, the obvious achievements were obtained due to the integrated protection measures.
