A Probe into Chinese Painting Studies in the First Half of the 20th Century

Abstract

Chinese painting theory is the focus of interest in the studies of Chinese paintings,and Chinese painting studies is an academic term in this regard.Endowed with unique national features,Chinese painting theory is unparalleled in the world for its unique qualities of systematicity,exuberance,wholeness,practicality,and academicism.It is not only an indispensable component of the theories of world arts,but also the cornerstone of Chinese painting creations.The spontaneous composition of Chinese painting theory dates back to a long way ago,but conscious studies of Chinese painting theory as a discipline began after the Ming Dynasty.The time during the Ming and the Qing Dynasties had witnessed the origination and early development of Chinese painting studies.In the first half of the 20th century,due to the unrelenting explorative efforts of many scholars and painters,Chinese painting studies has established itself more as an academic discipline,which later on laid a solid foundation for today's curriculum construction of Chinese painting studies.
