Abstract
[Objective] To investigate the protective effect of sevoflurane and isoflurane on the liver against ischemia-reperfusion injury and the mechanisms involved. [Methods] Ninety-six SD rats were randomly divided into four groups: sham-operation group (Sham), ischemia-reperfusion group (IR), sevoflurane group (Sev) and isoflurane group (Iso). Serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were determined after ischemia-reperfusion. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities, glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in liver were measured. [Result] The activities of serum ALT, AST, and LDH in IR, Sev, and Iso groups were significantly higher than that in Sham group (P 0.01) after ischemia-reperfusion. Compared with those in Sham group, SOD activities, GSH content in liver degraded and meanwhile the content of MDA increased in IR, Sev, and Iso groups after ischemia-reperfusion (P 0.05 or P 0.01). The activities of ALT, AST, LDH and the content of MDA were lower than those in IR group (P 0.05 or P 0.01). Meawhile the SOD activities and GSH content in liver were higher than those in IR group (P 0.05 or P 0.01). [Conclusion] Both sevoflurane and isoflurane can protect liver from ischemia and reperfusion injury. The protective mechanisms maybe related to reduceing the release of oxyradical and inhibiting the lipid peroxidation.
