Abstract
Transcutaneous immunization(TCI) is a new needle-free vaccination approach.The antigens and adjuvants for transdermal administration can be recognized by the antigen-presenting cells-Langerhans cells,and then the antigens are delivered to T cells to cause the strong humoral and cellular immunity.This safe and effective vaccine delivery route has both immunological and practical merits.The background and mechanism of TCI,the adjuvants,absorption enhancers,carriers of transdermal delivery system and the current development of transdermal vaccines are reviewed.
