Abstract
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) for varicosis of great saphenous vein. Methods Sixty-eight cases of varicosis of great saphenous vein were divided into two groups randomly; EVLT group (36 cases) was treated with EVLT,then the great saphenous vein was highly ligated and striped, and control group (32 cases) was subjected to conventional therapy (great saphenous vein was highly ligated and striped, and its communicating branches were resected and ligated). All these cases were followed up for 3-18 months, and the postoperative effectiveness and complications were observed. Results The symptoms of swelling and acratia in lower extremity were obviously alleviated, and the skin pigmentation was faded in two groups. The average hospital stay in EVLT group (4.2 days) was shortern than in control group (9.4 days),and the complications in EVLT group were significantly fewer than in control group. Conclusion EVLT is superior to the conventional therapy for varicosis of great saphenous vein, with its minimal invasion, fewer complications and conspicuous curative effectiveness.
