Abstract
Objective To appraise the localization of foreign body in the alimentary tract by radiography and endoscopic removal in a series of 34 cases. Methods In 1993~1999, thirty-four patients with foreign bodies in the esophagus or stomach diagnosed by X-ray or by laryngologist were removed by emergency endoscopy. Results Four cases with small and round shaped foreign bodies could be left by passing from below, and in twenty nine, they were removed by endoscope with snare grasp basket or biopsy forceps. in one where the foreign body lay horizontally in the middle of esophagus, it was removed under general anesthesia. Conclusion By proper localization, the foreign bodies can be safely removed endoscopically, without causing bleeding or perforation.
