EFFECT OF SOCIAL SUPPORT AND COPING STYLES ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH ALCOHOLIC DEPENDENCE

Objective: To investigate effects of the social support and coping styles on the quality of life in patients with alcoholic dependence. Methods: Forty three cases with patients of alcoholic dependence( study group) and forty five cases of local citizens without a history of alcohol abuse( control group) were surveyed with Social Support Rating Scale( SSRS) 、Coping Styles Questionnaire( CSQ) and the Generic Quality of Life Inventory 74( GQOLI-74),and the relevant factors were analyzed.Results:( 1) The total scores and the scores of all dimensions except material life in GQOLI-74 in study group were significantly lower than those of the control group( P 0. 01); The scores of total social support and three sub-dimensions in study group were significantly lower than those of control group( P 0. 01); The coping styles in study group were self accusation,mirage,retreat and rationalization;( 2) It was revealed that SSRS total score and three sub-dimensions and the total score of GQOLI-74 in study group had positive correlation( P 0. 01); the total score of GQOLI-74 and solving difficulties had positive correlation( P 0. 05) in study group,and there were negative correction between the GQOLI-74 total score and the rationalization and retreat( P 0. 01). Conclusion: The quality of 1ife in patients with alcoholic dependence decreased obviously,the patients with alcoholic dependence received less social support than the normal population,and their coping style were in a bad way. It is necessary for alcohol dependent patients to receive the positive support and intervention in order to improve their quality of life.
