Abstract

OBJECTIVE The methodology of quantitative analysis of harmine and harmaline in Peganum harmala was investigated and the contents of harmine and harmaline in Peganum harmala in different parts and different localities of the plant were also measured.METHOD The 38 samples of Peganum harmala in Xinjiang were measured with RP HPLC technique.RESULTS There were excellent linear correlation over the range of 1.18~23.68 and 2.099~25.19 μg·mL -1 for harmine and harmaline respectively.The contents of total alkaloid of Peganum harmala in different parts and different localities of the plant were 0%~ 7.68% .The quantitative distribution of total alkaloid in Peganum harmala was shown as following:seedrootnutshelstemleaf ( P 0.01).CONCLUSION The contents of total alkaloid was obviously variable in different parts and different localities of Peganum harmala .This quantitative measurement method appears to be an easy way to select good variety and to guide reasonable collection of Peganum harmala .
