Abstract

Objective: To study the monthly dynamic variation of the accumulation of active alkaloids in different parts of Peganum harmala L. collected in the south suburban area of Urumqi, and to confirm the optimal harvesting time and the best parts for crude drug use. Method: The contents of harmaline and harmine of different parts of Peganum harmala L. collected monthly were determined by RP-HPLC. Results: The accumulation patterns of alkaloids in different parts of Peganum harmala L. were very similar, with the highest content appearing in July, and the total amount of alkaloids was 3.7 times greater in seed than in root, 32.8 times greater than in stem, and 73.2 times greater than in hull(P 0.01). Conclusion: The optimal part of Peganum harmala L. for medical use is seed, and the most appropriate collecting time is in July.
