Application of MSCT Perfusion Technique in Differentiation of Benign and Malignant Bone Lesions

Abstract

Objective:To study the application and its characteristic role of multi-slice CT(MSCT)perfusion technique in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of benign and malignant bone lesions.Methods:MSCT perfusion scans were performed in thirty-four cases with pathologically confirmed bone lesions(24 cases with malignant lesions and the remaining 10 with benign ones)and the measurements of blood flow(BF),blood volume(BV),mean transit time(MTT)and vascular permeability of surface(PS)of the lesions were statistically analyzed using a commercial software.Results:The four measurements of malignant bone lesions were all higher than those of the benign ones.The values of BV and BF of the benign lesions were(2.0561±1.82)ml/100mg and(24.838±22.286)ml/(100mg·min)respectively and those of the malignant ones were(75.049±61.305)ml/100mg and(413.09±397.98)ml/(100mg·min)respectively.There were very significant differences(P0.01)in BV and BF between benign and malignant bone lesions.The PS of the benign bone lesion group was measured as(4.05±3.71)ml/(100mg·min)and that of the malignant group was measured as(8.2154±5.0709)ml/(100mg·min).Also,the statistical difference of PS between the benign and malignant groups showed significant(P0.05).However,the MTT values of the benign and malignant bone lesions(10.190±9.0995s and 14.116±9.9047 respectively)demonstrated no statistical significance(P0.05).Conclusion:MSCT perfusion was not only capable of demonstrating the blood supply details of benign or malignant bone lesions,but also providing the information concerning their nature of malignancy or benignancy.
