Abstract
The characteristics and limitations of the test methods(such as a ball-disc wear test method, reciprocating sliding wear test method and one-way sliding wear test method) for the wear resistance of the hard films are compared. The wear resistance is discussed in terms of friction coefficient, wear rate and wear mechanism. There is not a simple linear relation between the friction coefficient of hard-films and test parameters(load,speed,temperature,etc.).In comparison with wear track method, the weighing method presents higher accuracy and is applied widely in measurement of wear extent. The wear mechanism can be revealed by the aid of comprehensive analysis of the worn surface morphology and surface composition together with the variations of the friction coefficient and the wear rate.
