Abstract
In an inland waterway planning, the exploitable potential of waterway resources should be evaluated from the view point of the natural conditions of a river at first, and then the implementation scheme can be outlined according to the need of the national economic growth.Based on the hydraulics and river mechanics,a theoretical calculation method to determine the waterway rating of a natural river has been proposed, and a standard for warevways, which is attainable after natural waterways are regulated, has also been proposed.Furthermore, the method is verified with the data of the Xijiang River, the results of which show that the method is valid and feasible for waterway planning.
