Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of preoperative training of respiratory function exercises on pulmonary function in patients undergoing spinal surgery. Methods From March 2006 to September 2007,50 patients scheduled for spinal surgery were selected randomly and their respiratory function was trained for 1-4 weeks before operation. The pulmonary function before and after the exercises was tested. Results After training, the respiratory parameters including vital capacity(VC),forced vital capacity(FVC),forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1.0,%),maximal ventilatory volume(MVV,%),arterial oxygen saturation(SaO2,%) were variously improved.Compared with the data before training, the differences were significant(P0.01).Conclusion Respiratory function training can improve patients' pulmonary function, increases surgical treatment opportunity lowers surgical risk, and enhance their toleration to the operation.
