On the Systems of Millitary Service in Han Dynasty

The systems of millitary service underwent a changing process in Han Dynasty.Generally speaking,conscription system played a main role during the early Western Han. After the reign of Emperor Wudi, conscription system and mercenary systen were implemented side by side, mingled with the garrison of those who were punished, exiled, imprisoned or voluntary. Till Eastern Han, recruited soilders, prisoner soilders and minority soilders turned into the essential sources of troops,and the system of military service began a transition to hereditary military system.
