Abstract

Wang Anshi thinks highly of Du Fu's poems and to certain degree is influenced by Du's poems in his own poetic creation.Wang shows his concern for national affairs and people's lives in his poems and paraphrases many of Du's poems. He cites lines from Du's poems to form many of his new poems.Wang cites many allusions from Du's poems, pays attention to the refinement of the lines and also he learns from Du's syntax. However,Wang's poems like to comment and write indecent things. Many of the poems are mainly for courtesy and cite too many allusions and show the tendency of changing essays into poems,so there are great differences between his and Du Fu's poems. The five-word-a-line or seven-word-a-line poems, the best of his late year achievements, have nothing to do with Du's poems.Generally speaking, there are great differences between Wang's and Du's poems and they are far from each other as far as art is concerned.
