Kang Youwei's Association with Wu Peifu

Wu Peifu and Kang Youwei,of different cultural backgrounds,political ideals and political views,knew well each other during the event of Zhang Xun restoration,changing their adverse attitudes.Kang Youwei tried his best to seek connection with Wu Peifu because he wanted to realize his dream of constitutional monarchy with Wu's military force,this is the first reason;and the next one is both of them have accepted the enlightenment education of the Confucianism so earlier that they showed special favor towards this culture;the last reason is Kang believed that there was some sympathy between them.As for the uncertain response displayed by Wu Peifu,there also exist three reasons: his clear understanding of then situation,his political opinions different from Kang's,and making use of Kang's fame of literary saint for the appearance's sake.Kang and Wu cut across the line of literati and military for their ideals,indicating meaningfulness and values.Although ending up with failure in their efforts,both of them play an important role in the historical evolution,jointly promoting the process of the Republic of China.
