A model of ischemic tolerance induced by focal cerebral ischemic preconditioning in rats

Abstract

Objective To introduce a simple model of ischemic tolerance induced by a transient focal cerebral ischemia in SD rats. Methods The animals were divided into 3 groups,in which two sets underwent 10 minutes of MCAO (PC) or sham operation respectively 3 days before 2 hours of MCAO followed by 22 hours of reperfusion, and the third set underwent 10 minutes of PC only,neurologic scores , infarct volume and brain water content were evaluated in each group. Results Compared with SS group. No neurologic deficit scores, infarct size and water content were significantly reduced in PC+MCAO group.No neurologic impairment and infarct was identified in the PC group. Conclusion This is a simple, stable and effective model made by twice suture method and can be used as a tool in research of focal cerebral ischemic tolerance.
