Translator's Subjectivity Under the Perspective of Back Translation—— Examples from Ku Huming's Translation of The Discourses and Sayings of Confucius

Back translation can be applied to various fields in translation studies. Besides checking the effect of translation practice and teaching,back translation can also play a vital role in translation theoretical research. Master of Chinese culture-Ku Huming had played a pioneering role in translating Chinese classics into English. However,when translating The Discourses and Sayings of Confucius,Ku,as a famous cultural conservative,deliberately deleted the Chinese flavor when dealing with proper nouns and Chinese cultural reference. Through back translation of the sentences in Ku Huming's Translation of The Discourses and Sayings of Confucius,the paper explores the causes and degree of translator's subjectivity on translation activity,by which we may find the deeper reason for translator's choice of translation methods and play a leading role for future translation.
