Clinical and pathological features of Bowen's disease

[Objective] To study the clinical and pathological features,and the relation of apoptosis and pathogenesis of Bowen's disease.[Methods] Sixteen patients with BD were collected,and their clinical features were analyzed with pathological aspects observed by immunohistochemical SP techniques.[Results] The typical lesions of Bowen's disease are well defined erythematus patch covered with crusting and erosions.Histological examination showed that atypical cells were seen at all levels of the epidermis.Wide excision of the lesions is the first choice of treatment for BD.The expression levels of p53,bcl-2 and P-gp were all higher than controls(P 0.05).[Conclusions] BD is a malignant skin tumor with typical clinical and pathological features.Immunohistochemical analysis suggested that the pathogenesis and prognosis of BD may be related to apoptosis of epidermal keratinocytes.
