Clinical efficacy of noninvasive mechanical ventilation in the treatment of elderly patients with COPD complicated with respiratory failure

Abstract

Objective To investigate clinical efficacy of noninvasive mechanical ventilation in the treatment of elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( COPD) complicated with respiratory failure. Methods One hundred patients suffering from COPD with respiratory failure were randomly divided into 2 groups,undergoing basic anti-inflammatory and anti-asthmatic treatment. The control group with continuous low flow oxygen therapy and the observation group in the treatment of noninvasive mechanical ventilation,both of them were observed before and after treatment. Results The two groups were analyzed by arterial blood gas analysis,respiratory and heart rate. All patient's conditions were improved after treatment compared with those before treatment( P 0.05). Pa O2 of the observation group after treatment was higher than the of control group( Ρ 0. 01),while Pa CO2,heart rate and respiration rate of the observation group were lower than those of the control group( P 0. 01). The total effective rate of the observation group was 84% higher than that of the control group after 3d( Ρ 0. 01). Conclusion Noninvasive mechanical ventilation in the treatment of elderly patients with COPD complicated with respiratory failure can improve the index of blood gas analysis and reduce heart rate and respiration rate after 24 h. It can improve the therapeutic effect.
