Abstract

In this article, numerical simulation was investigated for a bulk carrier with two different hull lines of the original hull lines and the modified one.The results of numerical calculations contain resistance in calm water, propeller characteristic, flow field information of the stern and propulsion factors including hull/propeller interaction and hull/propeller/rudder interaction. The simulation results of both the original hull lines and the modified one are consistent with those of the model tests.Further, the effect of hull lines on ship resistance and propulsion performance was analyzed.Based on the simulation results, the hull lines with better power performance could be obtained. It may be helpful in the optimization of the hull lines and hull/ propeller/rudder matching using numerical method in the future.
