Amyloid-βprotein 40 and the expression of S100β in the SD rat brains

Abstract

Objective To inquire whether Aβ40 can induce the expression of S100β in the rat brain. Method To research the S100β expression after amyloid-β 40 injection,we take use of anti-S100β immunohistochemical staining. Result 3-day and 7-day after A940 injection,we conformed extensive S100β immunostaining by immunostaining of formalin-fixed brain sections. In constrast, the hippocampal cells showed no evidence of S100β expression in the control. Conclusion it indicates that Aβ40 can induce expression of S100β. S100β may be an important pathologenic factor when chronically expressed above some threshold, favors the pathologic changes of Alzheimer's disease. The overexpression of S100β may cause toxic effects resting from concentration above the effective range for trophic support. Our outcome conforms that amyloid-β protein(1-40) is a pathological stimulator.
