Abstract

We study some design methods of non GEO satellite constellation for regional mobile satellite communication (MSC). In order to coverage China, we research and calculate some possible constellation design methods, which include the global coverage constellation, the zonal coverage constellation, the circular polar orbit regional coverage constellation, the inclined circular orbit regional coverage constellation. Then we propose the equatorial plane zonal coverage constellation design method and the elliptical orbit regional coverage constellation design method. By comparison and simulation in SatLab, the equatorial plane zonal coverage constellation (5 satellites) and the inclined circular orbit regional coverage constellation (8 satellites) are suitable for Chinese regional MSC.
