Abstract
Along with our urban development and attention to urban lighting system paid by all level of government organizations, nowadays there are many constructions and planning department in China in process of incorporating and conducting urban lighting planning and design. In term of design strategies of sustainable development and energy saving, there are still some problems in how to make proper design for China lighting system. Through our practice, communication with foreign colleagues and review international experience, we discussed some issues, necessity for incorporating lighting planning, general structure of urban lighting system, how to select illuminated object, illumination level and luminance distribution, energy saving and sustainable development, light pollution and control.
