Research on the Relationship Between Self-Confidence and Achievement Motivation of Students Attending Independent College

Objective To probe into the relationship between self-confidence and achievement motivation of students of independent college.Method 800 students of independent college were chosen randomly from three colleges and universities in guizhou province and they were assessed with achievement motivation scale and self-confidence scale of undergraduate students.Results Persoh correlation analysis on each dimension of self-confidence and motivation for pursuing success and avoiding failure was conducted.Motivation for pursuing success had a positive correlation with overall self-confidence,school self-confidence,social self-confidence and physical self-confidence(p0.01) while motivation for avoiding failure had a negative correlation with each dimension of self-confidence(p0.01).In the regression analysis of each dimension of self-confidence on achievement motivation,when four predictor variables of self-confidence predicting the motivation for pursuing success,the overall,school and social self-confidence were in the regression equation(F=133.209,p0.01);when four predictor variables of self-confidence predicting the motivation for avoiding failure,the social and school self-confidence were in the regression equation(F=20.579,p0.01).Conclusion Self-confidence and achievement motivation of students attending independent college are closely related to each other.Overall,school and social self-confidence have a significant forecasting effect and influence on the motivation for pursuing success while social and school self-confidence have a significant forecasting effect on the motivation for avoiding failure.
