Comparison of Laparoscopy and Laparotomy for Ovarian Cyst

Objective To discuss the safety and influence on ovarian function of laparoscopy compared with laparotomy in treating the ovarian cyst.Methods From January 2004 to January 2011 in our hospital,137 cases of ovarian cyst were treated by laparoscipic treatment or laparotomy.71 cases were in the laparoscipic group and 66 cases in laparotomy group according to clinical feasures and the patients' will.The operation time,blood loss,postoperative anal exhaust time and total cost of hospitalization were recorded.Results No perioperative deaths was observed in the two groups.2 patients in the laparoscipic group turned for laparotomy for extensive adherenece.Laparoscopy had less amount of blood loss(P 0.05),earlier anal discharge(P 0.05),but had higher hospital charges(P 0.05).There was no significant difference in operation time(P 0.05)and orarian function between two groups(P 0.05).Conclusions Laparoscopy is safe,less invasive,and has faster recovery,but the costs is relatively higher than laparotomy.
