Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of nursing counseling on the mood and psychological health status of patients with dental fear.MethodVisual analog scale(VAS) was used to identify patients with adult dental fear treated by the same doctor.Forty patients were divided randomly into the intervention group and the control group of 20 cases each.The intervention group received nursing counseling before routine dental operation.Both VAS and modified dental anxiety scale(MDAS) were assayed before and after treatment.The scores were analyzed statistically.ResultsThere as no significant difference in VAS and MDAS scores between the two groups before treatment(P0.05).VAS and MDAS scores were significantly decreased in the intervention group after treatment compared with the control group and before treatment,while in the control group no significant difference was observed before and after treatment(P0.05).ConclusionEffective nursing counseling can ameliorate the psychological health status of patients with dental fear.
