Factors associated with condom use among men who have sex with men in Shenzhen

Objective To assess the factors associated with condom use when having had anal sex among men who have sex with men in Shenzhen.Methods Data of demographic and condom use were collected among MSM recruited by respondent-driven sampling method.Results A total of 351 cases were recruited.In last 6 months 57.0% had used condoms for every act of anal sex and 13.1% for oral sex.36.8% had used condoms for every act of vaginal sex with female sex partners.75.8% reported using condom for every act with money boys.Condom use when having anal sex was significantly associated with single,having had female sex partners in last 6 months,perceived HIV risk and numbers of sex partners more than 5.Condom use rate of MSM who are single or have female sex partners was higher.On the contrary more risky MSM perceived HIV and numbers of sex partners more than 5,less condom used when MSM have had anal sex in last 6 months.Conclusions Health education and behavioral intervention should be carried out targeted on MSM and condom rate among MSM should be raised.
