Abstract

Objective To evaluation the analgesic efficacy and safety of patient-controlled analgesia with Morphine or Tramadol in patients post-operation.Methods 50 patients scheduled for cholecystectomy under general anesthesia were randomly allocated to morphine(Group M)and tramadol(Group T)for postoperative patient-controlled analgesia(PCA),each for 25 cases.Efficacy was assessed by a 5-point verbal rating scores of pain intensity.Possible adverse events were also recorded. Results Statistical analysis revealed significant difference in a 5-point verbal rating scores of pain intensity between Morphine and Tramadol, but there was nosignificant differewle(P0.05).Tramadol caused fewer side effects such as nausea and vomitting than morphine(P0.05).Conclusion Tramadol offered a useful alternative to Morphine with less side effects for the patient-controlled analgesia of postoperative pain.
