Xanthine oxidase and vitamin E in patients with genotype B and C of chronic hepatitis B

Abstract

Objective:To study oxidative stress in patients with genotype B and C chronic hepatitis B.Methods:Xanthine oxidase and vitamin E were measured as markers of oxidative stress in 30 pailents with chronic hepatitis B,besides HBV genotypes.HBV DNA and ALT.Results:ALT and Xanthine oxidase were significantly higher,and vitamin E was significantly lower in pailents with genotype C than patients with genotype B(P0.05).Xanthine oxidase was significantly correlated with ALT,and vitamin E was significantly correlated,in patients with GT B and C groups and all patients.A significant relationship was not found between HBV DNA and other indices of oxidative stress.Conclusion:There was a severe oxidative damage in patients with GT C.Oxidative stress is an important mechanism of severe clinic syndrome in patients with GT C.HBV DNA has no relationship with genotypes and oxidative stress.
