Abstract

Objective To study oxidative stress in patients with genotype B and C chronic hepatitis B. Methods Malondialdehyde(MDA) and ascorbic acid were measured as markers of oxidative stress in 30 patients with chronic hepatitis B,besides HBV genotypes,HBV DNA and ALT;then obtained data were analysed statistically.Results ALT and MDA were significantly higher, and ascorbic acid was significantly lower in patients with genotype C than patients with genotype B(P0.05). MDA was significantly correlated with ALT, and ascorbic acid was significantly correlated, in patients with GT B and C groups and all the patients. A significant relationship was not found between HBV DNA and other indices of oxidative stress.Conclusion There is a severe oxidative damage in patients with genotype C. Oxidative stress is an important mechanism of severe clinical syndrome in patients with genotype C. HBV DNA has no relationship with genotypes and oxidative stress.
