Application of Gabapentin in Teatment of Herpes Zoster with Trigeminal Neuralgia in the Elderly

Objective To investigate effects of Gabapentin in teatment of herpes zoster with trigeminal neuralgia in the elderly Methods From January 2009 to May 2010 were treated 60 cases of elderly patients with postherpetic neuralgia were randomly divided into control group and treatment group 30 cases in each,in control group,all patients oral administration of carbamazepine,vitamin intramuscular injection,nerve block treatment.The group of 30 patients with oral gabapentin in treatment group,other treatments with the control group,were compared the clinical efficacy and side effects.Results Seventeen patients were cured,12 cases markedly effective,the total effective rate was 96.7%(29/30) in treatment group was significantly higher than the in control group 86.7%(26/30)(P0.05).There were not serious adverse reactions in two groups.Conclusion Oral administration of gabapentin treatment of the exact effect of post-herpetic neuralgia,and its effective,and can relieve symptoms and side effects is small,worthy to be popularized.
