The efficacy and safety of gabapentin in the treatment of acute herpes zoster neuralgia

Abstract

Objective: To observe the efficacy and safety of gabapentin in the treatment of acute herpes zoster neuralgia.Methods: All patients were treated with Foscarnet Sodium,vitamin B1 and methylcobalamin.On this basis,sixty patients were randomly divided into two groups,which were treated with either gabapentin(treatment group) or carbamazepine(control group).An evaluation of pain was done by using visual analogue scales(VAS) before and after treatment and adverse reactions of gabapentin and carbamazepine were observed.Results: The VAS scores of the treatment groups were significantly lower,and the total effective rate of treatment group was higher than that of control group.Conclusion: Gabapentin is effective in the treatment of acute herpes zoster neuralgia and with mild side effects.
