Correlation analysis of plasma homocysteine with ischemic stroke

Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma homocysteine(Hcy),lipids and ischemic stroke.Methods The plasma levels of Hcy,triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C) of 90 patients with acute ischemic stroke and 32 age and gender matched controls were detected respectively.The relationship between Hcy,lipids and ischemic stroke was analyzed.Results The plasma levels of Hcy,TG,TC in acute ischemic stroke group were significantly higher than those in control group.Hcy,TC and hypertension were independent risk factors of ischemic stroke.Conclusion Hyperhomocysteinemia(HHcy) is an independent risk factor of ischemic stroke.The Hcy level can serve as a kind of regular examination,which is of great importance in preventing ischemic stroke and reduce its morbility.
