Abstract
Mr Gu Yanwu was a great enlightener and thinker of China in the 17th century.With the background of the replacement of the Ming Dynasty by the Qing Dynasty,Mr Gu gave a good summary of the historical lessons of the collapse of the Ming dynasty and reevaluated the economy,politics,ideology and culture of the Chinese tradition and proposed the far-sighted idea of learning the past for the future.He summarized the wisdom of the great men in the past 3,000 years in China and critically inherited the new ideas since the late Ming Dynasty in China.His new theoretical contributions to philosophy,history,ethics,economy,politics,religion and literature made him a great master of learning and exerted a far-reaching influence on the ideological emancipation and the social reform in the late Qing Dynasty.
