Scholars' scientific thought and its historical significance in late Ming Dynasty

Late Ming Dynasty was in a critical period of social transition from the feudal society to modern China.During this period the bud of capitalism,thoughts of true learning and introduction of western sciences to China laid a solid foundation for the formation of modern science system in China.Scholars from the school of calendar in the late Ming Dynasty,represented by Xu Guang-qi,gave much reflection and rational criticism to traditional scientific thoughts in China.They made great contribution to China,including summarizing classical Chinese sciences,bridging the gap between oriental and western sciences as well as enlightening modern scientific thoughts.Though the enlightenment of scientific thoughts in the late Ming Dynasty failed to bring China the modern philosophy and natural sciences analogous to those of western societies,they are still of far-reaching significance today in terms of scientific thoughts and their practices as well.
