Abstract
Objective To develop a fast, simple immunoassay for detecting two antibodies in the sera of patients infected with Schitosoma japonicum. Methods A fast dipstick immunoassay (F-SPA-dipstick) for diagnosis of schistosomiasis was established by using the soluble egg and schistosomulum antigens as the target antigens. The antibodies in sera from patients with acute and/or chronic schistosomiasis infection and other parasitic diseases and healthy subjects were compared with F-SPA-dipstick, SEA-DDIA and IHA. Results The sensitivity of F-SPA-dipstick was 100% in 32 acute cases of schistosomiasis and 94.87% in 78 chronic cases of schistosomiasis. The specificity was 97.65% in 85 healthy objects. The cross-reaction rates were 2.86% in 35 clonorchiasis cases and 5.71% in 35 paragonimiasis cases. The results were similar to that of detected by SEA-DDIA and IHA. Conclusion The preliminary results show that the F-SPA-dipstick is a fast, simpler assay with higher sensitivity and specificity, and available for application in field situations and rapid diagnosis.
