The clinical significance of CD44 V6 protein expression in ovarian epithelial carcinoma

Objective To investigate CD44 V6 expression in ovarian epithelial carcinoma. Methods Monoclonal an-tibody anti - CD44 Y6 were used in immunohistochemical stainings of paraffin embedded tissue sections of 35 ovarian epithelial carcinomas, 18 benign ovarian epithelial tumors and 15 normal ovaries as controls. The clinical pathological materials of ovarian epithelial carcinoma were also studied. Results ①There was no expression of CD44 V6 in normal controls, but positive expressions in some ovarian epithelial tumors. ②CD44 V6 positive expression was correlated with the clinical staging of ovarian epithelial carcinoma (P 0.05), but was not correlated with the differentiation and histopathological classification (P 0.05) .③The overexpression of CD44 V6 was also correlated with prognosis of ovarian epithelial carcinoma (P 0.05) . Conclusions CD44 V6 may be correlated with the occurrence of ovarian epithelial carcinoma, the advancement as well as the metastasis. The measurement of CD44 V6 can be used to evaluate the prognosis of ovarian epithelial carcinoma and to help for chemotherapy.
