Clinical study of ahmed glaucoma valve implantation for refractory glaucoma

[Objective] To evaluate the effect of Ahmed glaucoma valve(AGV) implantation for refractory glaucoma,and to prevent the complications.[Methods] Twenty-three patients underwent Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation were summarized retrospectively.The visual acuity,intraocular pressure,postoperative complications and the effective rate were observed comparatively.The mean period of follow-up was 6-18 months.[Results] The postoperative best corrected visual acuities were stable in 8 eyes,dropped in 3 eyes and improved in 12 eyes.The success rate for intraocular pressure was 86.96% after the operation.The common postoperative complications included transient flat anterior chamber and high intraocular pressure in early stage,hyphema,and fibrination in late stage.[Conclusion] Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation is one of the effective methods for refractory glaucoma.
