Abstract

Objective To evaluate the significance of Heidelberg retina tomography in the early diagnosis of primary glaucoma. Methods The topography of optic discs was quantified by HRT in 98 normal controls(98 eyes),59 patients(59 eyes)with primary angle closure glaucoma and 36 patients with primary open angle glaucoma(36 eyes).Topographic parameters were compared among all groups. Results Among the HRT parameters, the mean values for cup area/disc area ratio(C/DR),cup volume(CV),rim volume(RV),cup shape measure(CSM),mean retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(mRNFLT) showed significant differences among POAG groups. But among PACG groups only cup shape measure(CSM),mean retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(mRNFLT) showed significant differences. Conclusions Measurement of topographic parameters by HRT is useful in detecting early glaucomatous damage.
