Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate the distribution and drug resistance of Acinetobacter in departments so as to guide the reasonable use of antibiotics in practice.METHODS From Feb 2008 to Oct 2010,the drug susceptibility testing was performed for 127 Acinetobacter strains isolated from sputum specimens, the distribution as well as the result of drug susceptibility testing of the main Acinetobacter were compared.RESULTS Of 2688 sputum samples, there were 119 strains of A.baumannii and 8 strains of A.lwoffi isolated with the detection rates of 4.4% and 0.3%,respectively.A.baumannii was resistant to 14 common antibiotics, with the mean drug resistance rate reaching up to 80.9%.A.baumannii was only sensitive to cefoperazone/sulbactam with the susceptibility rate of 65.5% and the drug resistance rate of 19.4%;however,the drug resistance rate of A.lwoffi was low with the mean drug resistance rate of 22.1%;119 strains of A.baumannii were mainly isolated from the submitted specimens from ICU,department of neurosurgery, neurology department and department of respiratory medicine, accounting for 82.4%;there were 73 strains of multidrug-resistant strains and 24 strains of pandrug-resistant strains;the multidrug-resistant or pandrug-resistant strains isolated from ICU,neurosurgery department, neurology department or department of respiratory medicine took significant larger proportion than did those from other departments.(P0.01).CONCLUSION A.baumannii is the dominant species in Acinetobacter isolated from sputum specimens;with the wide application of antibiotics, the antibiotic susceptibility of Acinetobacter is significantly changed;currently,multidrug-resistant strains and pandrug-resistant strains occupy a very large proportion, therefore,to further study the drug resistance mechanism of A.baumannii and develop novel drugs is crucial to the control of nosocomial infections.
