Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlations between insulin resistance and middle-aged coronary heart disease(CHD). Methods The coronary angiongraphy assessment of 118 patients with chest pain resulted in the control group(40) and the CHD group(78). The CHD group was then subdivided into three groups based on the quantity of coronary lesion:the one lesion group(25),the two-lesion group(34) and the three-lesion group(19). The insulin sensitivity index ISI=LN[1/(FBG×FINS)] had been calculated on the basis of determining the fasting insulin (FINS),fasting blood-glucose(FBG)and blood fat before the coronary angiography was undertaken. Results (1)The CHD group indicated a high index of insulinemia (P0.05)and a low index of insulin sensitivity(P0.05),compared with the control group. (2)The high indices of FINS and ISI were highly correlated with the increase of the quantity of coronary lesion. The Indices of FINS and ISI is the two -lesion group and the three -lesion group were significantly higher than those in the one lesion group(P0.05). Conclusion Insulin resistance is proportional to the incidence of midlle-aged CHD and strongly associated with the severity of midlle-aged CHD.
